Our Intent for our Cook School offer at Robert Wilkinson Primary Academy is to support the development and understanding of :
And to enjoy spending time in the kitchen to learn an important life skill.
Our Cook School programme is developed with the teaching team to suit each year group and class. Our sessions are carefully planned to ensure that the children become confident in the kitchen and enjoy a sense of achievement. The sessions build on prior learning, focus on the development of key skills and reflect our creative curriculum themes. We are also proud of our community links and the activities we undertake with our local care home.
Our Cook School is led by our dedicated Cook School teacher Mrs Seabourne In our purpose built classroom which has the full range of facilities required to build food preparation and cooking skills.
COOK SCHOOL GROUP LESSON
Cook School Group lesson is a popular class throughout the whole school, and every year group gets involved at least twice in a year. The lesson allows for up to 8 children from a year group to attend and results in the children preparing and cooking an agreed recipe. The children then take home their produce. The sessions are funded by voluntary contributions of £3 from parents. Children are required to provide a container to transport their food home.
COOK SCHOOL CLASS SESSION
During this session, classes are visited by Mrs Seabourne who shares a demonstration or presentation around healthy eating and perhaps some information about why the recipe for the year’s group lesson has been chosen.
AFTERNOON TEA
At the end of each half term 3 children from each team are chosen by the teacher to the high tea celebration. During this session the children prepare and cook an afternoon tea that they then enjoy with children from other teams. Children are chosen as a result of their hard work and excellent learning behaviour. This event is a real treat and many children say this is one of the highlights of their time in school.
INFORMATION FOR PARENTS
Prior to your child’s Cook School window you will receive a letter which will outline the focus of the sessions, how to make your donation, what type of container to provide and when your children session is likely to be.
CHILDREN WITH ALLERGIES
Every care is taken to make sure we cater for all children and are fully inclusive in our approach. If your child has allergies please ensure that your child’s allergy information is up to date with the school office. This information will be shared with Mrs Seabourne if there are any issues or clarity around allergies required she will be follow this up with you.
Our school is a nut free school. In order to cater for some allergies it may be necessary to create a sub group for the group lessons. If this is the case we will be sure to let you know.
